Elder Hampton was born in Le Conte, Louisiana and later moved to Los Angeles at the age of nine. His family settled in Watts beginning his California schooling at Grape Street Elementary School. He proceeded to Jordan High School where he lettered all four years in track & field and football. Graduating, holding offices such as Vice President of the Student Body and President of his senior class, he went on to East Los Angeles Jr. College where he was an outstanding football player. He continued his education at Don Martin's School of Radio and Television, completing four years of study. He attended U.C.L.A. and obtained certificates in Songwriting and Production. As an avid racing fan with 49 years of drag racing experience, Elder Hampton continues to maintain his own dragster. Without limiting himself to solely being a fan of the sport, he worked for Lions Drag Strip as a Starter and Event Announcer. He was the founder and organizer of the American Drag Racing Association (ADRA) and worked for NHRA and AHRA.
He is currently a licensed swimming pool contractor, a business he has maintained for over 37 years. He also holds licenses in life insurance, fire and casualty insurance and securities and annuities. He is happily married to Samaritan Hampton and is the father of six children, four stepchildren, grandfather of 24, and great grandfather to one.
Because of his immense love for the Lord and continued concern for mankind, he has been involved in community services for several years. He and his wife recently founded a nonprofit organization called "Building Better Children (BBC)" which is dedicated to enriching the educational achievements of children and rebuilding the family unit through biblical principles.
